So yeah, I’ve been absent from the blogosphere for what seems like forever.
Lots of things have happened in the interim; in fact, lots of things are still happening right now. The point is, there really is no shortage of things to write about. What there is a shortage of, however, are time to commit to paper (or to online space, as it were) accounts of all those things as well as the necessary gumption to do so.
Someday I may find both the time and the motivation to write more thoroughly on the things that have kept me busy these past few weeks, but here are the highlights:
- I was admitted into the hospital for what I feared was a heart problem, but what was eventually concluded to have been significant dehydration. On the bright side, at least my doctors concluded that my ticker is pretty healthy except for a slight tendency to have high blood pressure.
- During my hospital stay, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. It was a tough blow, but at least I know that there is an enemy within the gates. Knowing there is something to fight and knowing what its nature is can only help in beating it.
- Post-hospital admission, I’ve been working harder than ever to get healthier. I’ve already lost some weight, and have resumed my habit of going on afternoon bike rides after work in order to get in some kind of decent shape.
- In sports-related news, I was most pleased that the Miami Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. To be perfectly honest, after the Lakers got hammered out of the playoffs, I didn’t care which team won the championship just as long Miami and that insufferable fraud LeBron James did not win the title themselves.
- More sports: I don’t know what to make of new Lakers head coach Mike Brown. All I know is that he never impressed me when he was the Cavaliers’ head coach. I decried his appointment as a “stupid move” by the Lakers to some friends; as a Lakers fan, I hope the management knows something about Mike Brown’s coaching abilities beyond what I saw during his tenure in Cleveland.
- Tech stuff: I recently finished my second water-cooled PC. I had dubbed this the “Secret Project.” It’s the fastest, most powerful PC I’ve constructed yet. Next on my plate: Completing the re-purposing of my first water-cooled PC into file server duty, and constructing a machine for me and my sisters’ use whenever I’m at my parents’ house.
- Finally: I made a big push and finished chapter 12 of my “V: The Final Battle” – based fanfiction novella “Echoes.” It needs polish and loving attention from editors and critical readers. (If anybody would like to volunteer, by all means let me know, please! You will not be refused.)
I guess that’s all for now.
Till next time.

I hear ya on the diebetes man. My father was recently diagnosed with it, and he was really down about it for a week. He used it as an excuse (and a damn good one, lol) to reconsider his food choices. As of late, he’s completely cut alcohol from his diet and lost 20-40lbs in a month. If I recall correctly, I think his doctor was saying he may be able to escape diabetes!
Hang in there man!
Thanks for the kind words, timx.
Honestly, I never really felt down or sorry for myself after getting my diagnosis. Maybe the only thing I kind of felt bad about was knowing I have to cut down on carbohydrate intake, which of course includes stuff like potatoes (I LOVE my spuds! I must be part Irish or something…), soda (my biggest addiction, for sure), and candy like Skittles. Thankfully my self-control and discipline have been good so far. And I’m feeling really good these days, too!
At least I’m not a chocoholic, or I might be a completely lost cause!
In all seriousness, though, thanks again for your kind words. And I hope your dad does well in his efforts to manage this disease. I wish him the best.
